Tami and Musi. Photo by Lucia Kloster 2011 |
This was the first time I was invited to someone's home to take belly pictures. I was greeted with the delicious aroma of Chai tea in the air and a big hug at the door. Tami's home was so warm and welcoming. Her son was at a friend's for the day and she was planning on making cookies with her daughter, Musi after I left. Musi did cartwheels in the kitchen, headstands onto the couch in the living room and back bends in the dining room while Tami and I talked. Tami recently completed her doctorate in
Fair Trade in Bolivia and Development Economics, she is a professor at Keene State College, runs her own fair trade company, KUSIKUY,
and is a fun loving mom. She is very passionate about all aspects of her life.
Tami's Fair Trade company, "KUSIKUY means 'Make yourself happy' in Quechua - the language of Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador's Andes Mountains. Make yourself happy exploring the lives and experiences of indigenous women working under the Fair Trade model. As a Fair Trade producer, journalist, and academic, she strives to make authentic voices heard in order to create public discussion, grow understanding, and bring about greater justice."
